Mrs. Macquaries Chair provides the all-time classic view of Sydney’s CBD skyline, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. This location is on most visitor’s bucket list of locations to visit for its sweeping views across Sydney Harbour towards Sydney’s iconic sites. The vistas from this location are fantastic at any time of day with sunset being particularly memorable.

There are two main viewpoints from Mrs. Macquaries Chair. The first is the elevated platform and walkway at the far north end of the headland. A small viewing deck provides sweeping views of the harbour. One note, Mrs. Macquaries Chair is a stone bench located on the eastern side of the headland. It has beautiful views of the harbour, but looks east away from the main sites of Sydney.

The second viewpoint is anywhere along the walking path that follows the coastline of the Farm Cove inlet. One point to note, the stretch of footpath along Farm Cove that sits inside Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden is subject to opening and closing hours (Royal Botanic Garden Opening Hours). If you are walking to or from Mrs. Macquarie’s headland outside of opening hours, you’ll need to make a detour towards the Art Gallery of New South Wales along Art Gallery Road.

Getting There: By foot is the best way to enjoy this area. The nearest public bus stop (#441) is outside the Andrew Charlton Pool. Pay-to-park parking is available along Mrs. Macquarie’s Road which is expensive and enforced. The closest train station is St James and from there it is a walk to the end of the Mrs Macquaries Chair headland.
